At the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, experts and key funders identified a number of areas where the UK needed to increase its research scale and infrastructure to respond to near-term strategic, policy and operational needs regarding Covid-19. As a result, the National Core Studies (NCS) programme was established in summer 2020 to ensure critical questions can be answered quickly, and to the best of our capability. The National Core Studies programme is enabling the UK to use health data and research to inform both our short and long-term responses to Covid-19, as well as accelerating progress to establish a world-leading health data and research infrastructure for the future.
